Dear Neighbor,

The Mt. Hermon Association has closed the Woodwardia Bridge after years of failure to maintain it, effectively isolating those of us on the North side of the river from Felton and conference grounds. People will not be able to find our homes from online maps or navigation systems because they all lead to Woodwardia Bridge. The isolation and the difficulty in finding our homes will substantially impact our property values and rental value.

Let the Mt. Hermon Association know that they need to fulfill their legal obligation to maintain our right of way across the bridge, and they in the meantime need to fight for left turn lanes leaving and entering the area, even if that means a traffic light must be installed. The Mount Hermon Assoc. has violated California Civil Code sec. 845 which states “The owner of any easement in the nature of a private right-of-way, or of any land to which any such easement is attached, shall maintain it in repair.” There may be additional safety concerns, as fire trucks may not be able to get through on the road. Furthermore, if people are leaving, emergency vehicles will be blocked from access causing a public safety concern.

Please take the time to sign the demand letter and send it to the Mt. Hermon Assoc. and petition to the county to lower your property taxes. Both the county form and the letter are downloadable from this web page (below). Please also contact our county supervisor, Mark Stone, at 454-2200 and:

  1. ask him for help in getting the bridge fixed,
  2. let him know we need a left turn in and out of the neighborhood from Mt. Hermon Rd.
  3. please voice your concerns about the public safety.

Legal fund: I would like to start a legal fund to fight the Mt. Hermon Assoc. and force them to fix the bridge.

Please contact Joel Silver, Attorney at Law (and North side home owner) at larkin.valley@yahoo.com if you have any questions.
